My dear Miss Mullens:
I have just learned that through Monsignor Fitzsimmons you presented a check of twenty-five hundred dollars for the purpose of establishing a perpetual scholarship in the Preparatory Seminary of the diocese, the same to be in memory of your deceased sister, Mrs. Mary Sullivan, and to bear her name. And I feel it incumbent on me to personally acknowledge this renewed evidence of the participation of yourself and your sister in this great work of religion, the training of the candidates for the future priesthood in this great archdiocese. Nor do I know of a better way to perpetuating your sister's memory than by thus providing the means to educate and properly equip those who afterwards as priests will remember her at the altar of God in the Sacrifice of the Mass. For it is understood that all those who will have obtained the benefits of their education as holders of this scholarship will bind themselves to celebrate ten masses each year for the ten years following their ordination in the event of their elevation to the holy priesthood.
In conclusion, with these sentiments of my appreciate, kindly accept the assurance of my best wishes and my blessing.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
George W. Mundelein, Archbishop
